Brock Purdy threw three touchdown passes to three different receivers as the San Francisco 49ers beat the Los Angeles Rams 27–7 in Melbourne. San Francisco scored the final 24 points, turning a second-quarter deficit into a comfortable season-opening win with long touchdown drives and a defense that kept Los Angeles scoreless after halftime.
The 49ers finished with 379 yards to the Rams’ 290. Their balance mattered: 174 rushing yards complemented Purdy’s 205 through the air, and San Francisco converted seven of 12 third downs. Los Angeles went two for nine on third down and lost the turnover count, two to one.
The sequence that changed the game
Eddy Piñeiro’s 20-yard field goal gave San Francisco the first points, but Kyren Williams answered with a five-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. That put the Rams ahead 7–3. Both quarterbacks then threw interceptions: Quentin Lake picked off Purdy, and Renardo Green intercepted Matthew Stafford to give the 49ers the ball at their own 14.

Purdy completed 25 of 34 passes, with three touchdowns and one interception. Evans caught six passes for 49 yards, Samuel six for 48, and Robinson two for 50. Each finished with a touchdown. Christian McCaffrey added five catches for 20 yards to his 68 rushing yards on 10 carries.
Kaelon Black carried 14 times for 65 yards, giving San Francisco another productive rushing option. Purdy contributed 29 rushing yards, and the 49ers held the ball for 33 minutes, 50 seconds.
Stafford finished 15 of 25 for 155 yards, with no touchdown passes and one interception. Puka Nacua led the Rams with five catches for 74 yards. Williams supplied their only touchdown, while Blake Corum led their rushing attack with 54 yards.
Piñeiro added a 56-yard field goal after a Rams fumble in the fourth quarter. For San Francisco, the opener delivered both a win and a clear offensive pattern: several productive receiving options backed by a running game that kept drives moving.
