Golden State Just Changed the WNBA Seeding Question

The Valkyries' 80-66 win at Minnesota delayed the Lynx's chance to lock the top seed and gave the rest of the field a fresh reason to study Golden State.

  1. Golden State beat Minnesota 80-66 on Aug. 24, preventing the Lynx from closing the race for the No. 1 seed that night. The result matters because it came against the team setting the league's standard, not against another club fighting at the playoff line.

  2. The Valkyries stood 25-11 in the WNBA's Week 13 power rankings. An expansion label can make that record feel provisional, but a late-season road win over Minnesota changes the scouting conversation. Golden State has enough structure to punish a favorite that treats the matchup as a formality.
